On Being Alone

“
Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space...If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you'll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let the cattle stand in your way.” Janet Fitch, White Oleander

I live in a house with seven other people. Some days, it feels like I'm constantly surrounded by people, by noise, by commotion.

And other times, I feel incredibly alone.

And this isn't a bad thing. While there is a specific kind of pain and a unique loneliness that sometimes comes when feeling alone while being surrounded by people, it's also an opportunity to figure out why the people who are important to you...are so important.

Sometimes, being all on your own is kinda exciting.
